POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Analytics Engineer will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between our Data Engineers and Data Analysts, blending the responsibilities of both roles with a primary focus on solution management. This position is designed for a hybrid professional with strong technical expertise in data engineering and a keen analytical mindset, who can manage the full lifecycle of data, from raw ingestion to actionable insights. Additionally, the Analytics Engineer will be instrumental in enabling advanced analytics to drive deeper insights and inform strategic business decisions.
The Analytics Engineer will focus on designing, implementing, and delivering platforms that support STR’s enterprise data needs, including master and reference data management, data modeling, data transformation, and the movement of data across systems. A key responsibility is ensuring that data is efficiently structured and optimized for analysis, while maintaining scalability and performance.
The Analytics Engineer will report to the Manager of Data and Analytics.
Job Location: In office located in Houston, TX or Denver, CO.
Schedule: Hybrid work schedule with Monday - Thursday in the office and Fridays work from home. This is not a remote position.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Understanding the business use of data and the stakeholders’ requirements to support work processes and strategic business objectives
Identify, acquire, cleanse, and prepare data from various sources, ensuring it meets the organization’s needs.
Develop reusable data products that support ongoing business goals.
Make data available for and contributing to the creation of advanced analytics models
Create advanced analytic models and data products
Design and implement modern data pipelines/ETL to extract, clean and process data in batch and real-time from different data sources
Help establish best practices around data governance, data security and privacy. Work together with various disciplines to define the target data strategy
Assist with data platform performance tuning and physical data model support including partitioning and compaction
Provide guidance in data visualizations and reporting efforts to ensure solutions are aligned to business objectives
Document all data processes, pipelines, and reports for future reference and ease of understanding
Enhance and refine data query performance for real-time processing in analytics
Lead efforts implementing a data culture within the organization
Work with users and representatives at all levels for process improvements and report creation
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in math, statistics, computer science, or a related technical field.
3-7 years of experience in report development, data science, business analytics, business intelligence, or a comparable data engineering role, with a focus on data warehousing and business intelligence tools, techniques, and technologies.
Proven knowledge of extracting, combining, and working with data from various sources, databases, and data warehouses.
Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present to diverse audiences, from entry-level employees to executive leadership.
Passion for data, visualization, and solving complex problems.
Creative approach to finding the best solutions for real-world problems using quantitative data.
Hands-on experience with cloud technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Databricks Live Tables, Spark, Azure Synapse, Cosmos DB, and other big data technologies.
Advanced SQL expertise.
Experience with Git for version control.
Familiarity with Power Platform governance and security.
Proficiency with common Python libraries such as pandas, Numpy, Pyarrow, Pytest, Scikit-Learn, and Boto3.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with dbt core
Experience delivering advanced data products that enable business insights and decision-making.
Experience with dimensional modeling techniques and building clean, organized models for analytics use cases.
Strong proficiency in Azure Databricks
Proficiency with Azure ecosystem tools including blob storage and Azure functions
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Status: Full-time, exempt
Base Pay Range: $115,000 –$160,000 depending on qualifications and experience
